Women's Tennis Falls to Saint Louis at Atlantic 10 Championship

Charlottesville, Va. - The Fordham University women's tennis team closed out the 2011-12 season with a 4-2 loss to Saint Louis University in the first round of play at the 2012 Atlantic 10 Championship at the Boars Head Sports Club on Thursday. With the loss, the Rams close out the year with a 17-6 record.

The Rams opened the match by dropping the doubles point as the Billikens took two of the three doubles matches. Bella Genkina and Sarah Ali got things off on the right foot for Fordham, defeating Brooke Urzendowski and Kasia Tomalak at second doubles, 8-2. But Hanna Fritzinger and Julie Leong fell to Stephanie Hollis and Maria Toro Moreno at third doubles, 8-1, and Saint Louis took the doubles point when Jen Nalepa and Mia Elmore upended Amy Simidian and Angelika Dabu at the first position, 8-5.

In singles play, Simidian earned a point for the Rams at first singles, dropping the first set to Nalepa, 6-1, before coming back to win the second, 6-3 ad the third, 6-4.

Dabu also picked up a singles point for the Rams at the third position, upending Elmore in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2.

Ali almost pulled off a win at second singles, losing the first set to Hollis, 6-3, before winning the second, 6-3. But Hollis came back to take the third set, 6-2, and the Billikens took the other two completed singles matches for the 4-2 win.
