Women's Tennis Blanks Quinnipiac, 7-0

Hamden, Conn. - After having their match at Stony Brook canceled yesterday due to weather, the Fordham University women's tennis team beat the conditions, along with Quinnipiac University, today, shutting out the Bobcats, 7-0, at the QU Outdoor Tennis Courts. With the win, the Rams' fourth in the past five matches, Fordham improves to 14-4 on the year.

The Rams opened the match taking the doubles point, winning two of the three doubles matches. Hanna Fritzinger and Julie Leong got things started for Fordham, defeating Lavinia Cristescu and Ariana Launie, 8-1, at third doubles while Amy Simidian and Angelika Dabu took care of things at first doubles, besting Rachel Cantor and Sarah Viebrock, 8-4.

In singles play, the Rams swept all six matches, five of those in straight sets. At first singles, Simidian defeated Cantor, 6-3, 6-3, while Sarah Ali was victorious at the second position, defeating Jacqueline Raynor, 6-4, 6-2. Angelika Dabu took third singles from Viebrock, 7-6 (2), 6-2, Fritzinger won at the fifth spot over Launie, 6-1, 6-1, and Leong bested Cristescu at sixth singles, 7-5, 6-2.

The lone match to go to a tiebreaker was at fourth singles where Bella Genkina took the first set from Michelle Dassa, 6-2, but dropped the second, 5-7. Genkina came back to win the tiebreaker, 12-10, to preserve the shutout for the Rams.

The Fordham women's tennis squad will next be in action on Tuesday, April 3rd, as they travel to Philadelphia to face Temple University at 10:30 a.m.
