Men's Tennis Falls to #68 St. John's

Flushing, N.Y. - The Fordham men's tennis team matched up with its second ranked opponent this season on Friday at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York. Still dealing with some illnesses and injuries, the Rams came up short in a 7-0 decision against 68th-ranked St. John's.

The Red Storm opened the match with the doubles point, as Greg Streat and Stefan Bojic defeated Fordham's third doubles duo of Michael Puntillo and Srikar Alla, 8-4, while Valentin Mihai and Mike Lampa topped Peder Gram and Max Peara at second doubles by the same score.

St. John's completed a doubles sweep, when Ilija Vucic and Milo Hauk edged Fordham's Kuba Kowalski and Mischa Koran at first doubles by an 8-6 score.

In singles action, St. John's swept all six matches in straight sets. The Rams put up strong fights at first, third and sixth singles before succumbing to the Red Storm. Kowalski fell to Hauk at first singles, 7-5, 6-2, while Alla was topped by Kurt Anbarci at third singles, 7-5, 6-3. Peara would fall to Mihai at sixth singles, 6-2, 7-5.

The Fordham men's tennis team will next be in action on Saturday, March 17th, when the Rams host La Salle University at the Hawthorn/Rooney Tennis Courts, beginning at 11:00 AM.
