Bronx, N.Y. -
Fordham women's soccer head coach Ness Selmani announced the newest additions to the 2012 squad today, as three players will join the Rams. The list includes midfielder Victoria Camaj (Diamond Bar, Calif./St. Lucy's Priory), defender Joann Murino (Bohemia, N.Y./Connetquot), and midfielder/defender Ivana Lahcanski (Rochester, N.Y./Penfield).
Camaj, a 5-4 midfielder, is currently playing in her third season as a member of the St. Lucy's varsity squad. In her freshman and junior years, she was named Sierra League MVP and to the San Gabriel Valley Tribune First Team. She was also recognized as a member of the All-CIF Soccer Team as a junior.
Outside of school, Camaj plays with CZ Elite Soccer club, which won the Cal South National Cup in 2009. She has also played with Cal South ODP, the ODP Region IV Team, and was chosen for the U-14 US National ID Camp.
In the classroom, Camaj holds a 4.2 GPA, while being a four-year honor roll member. She is also two-time winner of the Sierra League All-League Academic Athlete Award.
Selmani on Camaj - "Victoria has the ability to immediately change the current status of the program. She is a tireless worker who has tremendous skill and vision. I have no doubt that she will be a force to reckon with in the A-10 Conference."
A 5-7 defender, Murino is a four-year starter for the Connetquot varsity soccer team, and was recognized as an All-County player in 2010 and 2011. She has been a member of ENY ODP since 2009 and won the Suffolk Zone Award in 2012.
At Connetqout High School, Murino is a member of the National Honor Society, Athletes Helping Athletes and DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America).
Selmani on Murino - "Joann plays with high intensity for 90 minutes and has an extremely powerful distribution out of the back. Joann has the ability to play any defensive position, and we feel that she will be a great addition to our back field."
Lahcanski is a 5-6 midfielder/defender at Penfield High School. She earned four varsity letters and was elected captain and MVP as a senior. In both 2009 and 2011, she was selected to the Monroe County Soccer First Team, and she helped her school to its best season in 2009, when the team won the Section V State Title.
Lahcanski plays club soccer for Empire United Elite Soccer, and won the state cup in 2009. She is a five-year member of the ODP NYW, and represented upstate New York on the field as member of the Region 1 2008-2009 ODP team.
Off the pitch, Lahcanski was a high honor roll member for four years and was elected the 2011 class president. She was also a four-year recipient of the Athletic Scholar Award.
Selmani on Lahcanski - "Ivana plays with great passion and excitement. Her speed and aggressive style of play will be a tremendous asset to our midfield and defense. We expect great things from her here at Fordham, and she is a great fit for our program."
