Women's Tennis Blanks Saint Peter's, 7-0

Jersey City, N.J. - Like their male counterparts, the Fordham University women's tennis squad continued their hot spring season, defeating Saint Peter's College, 7-0, at the Yanitelli Center Bubble. With the win, the Rams improve to 9-2 on the year.

Fordham opened the match by taking the doubles point, winning all three doubles matches. Amy Simidian and Angelika Dabu took first doubles from Alexandria Livingston and Joniesa Williams, 8-2, while Sarah Ali and Bella Genkina were victorious at the second position over Adina Ungurean-Halagian and Jemila Brady, 8-1. Hanna Fritzinger and Julie Leong made it a clean sweep for the Rams with an 8-0 win over Jessica Nowogrodzki and Vanessa Vogel at third doubles.

The Rams then completed the shutout by winning all six singles matches, four in straight sets. Simidian defeated Livingston at first singles, 6-2, 6-1, while Dabu upended Williams at the third position, 6-1, 6-2, Fritzinger took fourth singles from Ivana Grbelja, 6-0, 6-1 and Leong swept Nowogrodzki at sixth singles, 6-0, 6-1.

Ali and Genkina had to work a little harder for their wins as Ali dropped the first set to Saint Peter's Halagian at second singles, 6-4, but fought back to win the second, 7-5, and then took an extended tiebreaker, 11-9. Genkina also lost her first set at fifth singles to Brady, 6-3, but came back to win the second, 6-2, and the tiebreaker, 10-3.

The Rams will return to action on Saturday, March 10th, as they host the George Washington University Colonials at Stadium Tennis in the Bronx at 6:00 p.m.
