Jen Mineau and Paige Ortiz Earned Atlantic 10 Softball Weekly Honors

Newport News, Va. - Fordham University senior Jen Mineau (Schaghticoke, N.Y./Hoosic Valley Central) and freshman Paige Ortiz (Katy, Texas/Seven Lakes) took home Atlantic 10 Softball Pitcher of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively, it was announced by the conference on Monday. Mineau earns the weekly honor for the second time this season while Ortiz captured her first rookie title.

Mineau had a stellar week for Rams, going 4-0 and highlighting it with her eighth career no-hitter, an 8-0 win against St. John's on Tuesday. Mineau went six innings, walked one and struck out nine in the shutout. She followed that performance with a three-hit, 12-strikeout, complete game in a 9-1 win over La Salle on Friday. She completed her week on Sunday, racking up a pair of victories over George Washington, throwing seven innings one-hit ball, fanning 13, in a 2-1 win on game one and then hurling another complete game, striking out seven, in a 5-1 win in the nightcap.

For the week, Mineau tossed a no-hitter, struck out four batters in an inning and posted a strikeout to walk ratio of 20:1.

On the year, Mineau is 13-8 with a 1.98 ERA. She has thrown 17 complete games and has three shutouts to date and is holding opponents to a .197 batting average while striking out 190 in 138.2 innings. Mineau leads the Atlantic 10 in wins and innings pitched and is second in strikeouts.

Ortiz was equally as impressive at the plate as Mineau was in the circle, connecting for a home run in the St. John's and both games of the La Salle doubleheader to complete a streak of five home runs in five consecutive games. Ortiz complemented that with a .500 batting average, going 8-for-16 at the plate with seven RBI. Additionally, she had three multi-hit games and three contests with multiple RBI. In the La Salle doubleheader, Ortiz went 5-for-7 in the two games with a pair of home runs, six RBI and three runs scored.

On the year, Ortiz is hitting .320, second best on the team, and she leads the squad, and is ranked second in the Atlantic 10, with seven home runs, 21 RBI and 32 hits.

The Rams, currently 16-14 overall, and 4-0 in the A-10, steps outside of conference play for a doubleheader against Lehigh at Easton, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, March 28, at 3:00 PM.
