The Fordham golf team closed out the fall 2011 campaign with a team win at the FDU Golf Invitational and they maintained their consistent play by opening up the spring 2012 event with another victory, this one at the La Salle Spring Invitational. Senior captain Devon O'Rourke came in second after a tie-breaker determined the winner.
The team posted a final score of 621, ten strokes better than second-place Iona. The Rams put up scores of 300 to open play and 321 to keep a stranglehold on the lead and finish with the 621 mark. Additionally, all seven Fordham competitors placed in the top-20 in the individual finishes.
O'Rourke shed four strokes in the second round as he put up a 79 and 75 for a 154 and a second place finish. Jason Del Rosso was one under (70) after day one, but he scored an 86 for a combined 156 and a sixth place finish. Connor Monaghan came in seventh was rounds of 76 and 81 that totaled 157. Brody Nieporte was eleventh with a three shot improvement from 82 to 79 and a final score of 161. Freshman Jeff Hogan had scores of 75 and 91 for a 31st place finish. Two other Fordham golfers competed in the individual competition only and Brandon Nolan finished in a tie for 11th with scores of 77 and 84, while Brian Engstrom posted marks of 79 and 84 en route to a 20th position placement.
The win is the first of the spring campaign for the team and they return to the links on April 2 as they participate in the Annual Spring Penn Invitational from Trump National Golf Club in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
