Men's Tennis Gets Back on Winning Track

After two close losses, the Rams' first two-match losing streak of the year, the Fordham University men's tennis team was looking to get back on track today against Wagner College and the Rams didn't disappoint, shutting out the Seahawks, 7-0, on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts.

The match started with singles play with Fordham winning all six matches in straight sets. Max Peara got things started with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Taylor Santoro at third singles and Alex DeRienzo followed with a victory over Pierre Yuzon by the same score at the sixth position.

The next match to finish was first singles where Kuba Kowalski defeated Danil Ovechkin, 6-2, 6-1, and then Peder Gram clinched the victory for the Rams with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Matthew Richards at the fourth spot.

Srikar Alla kept Fordham perfect in singles play with a 6-0, 6-2 decision over David Garzon at second singles and Jan Krouham closed out singles with a 6-5, 6-1 win over Christian Rautenstra at the fifth position.

The Rams also swept the doubles competition, all by 8-3 scores. Kowalski and Alla took first doubles from Ovechkin and David Garzon, Eli Plangger and Peara bested Santoro and Rautenstra at the second position and Andriy Kulak and Luke Maloney were victorious at third doubles over Richards and Yuzon.

The matched scheduled with Lafayette following the Fordham-Wagner match was postponed.

The Rams will next be in action on Wednesday, March 28th, as they host Fairleigh Dickinson University in the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts at 1:00 p.m.
