Bronx, N.Y. -
After having their three-match winning streak snapped on Thursday, the Fordham University women's tennis squad looked to get back in the win column today and they did, defeating Saint Joseph's University, 5-1, on the Hawthorn/Rooney Court.
With the win, the Rams' seventh in their past nine matches, Fordham improves to 13-4 on the year.
The match opened with singles play as it was decided that doubles would only be played if it affected the outcome of the match and the Fordham singles players made sure it wouldn't. Bella Genkina picked up the first win for the Rams, defeating Laura Matz in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, at fourth singles and Hanna Fritzinger followed Genkina's win with one of her own, besting Saint Joseph's Lauren Roy, 6-2, 6-0, at the fifth position.
Sarah Ali made it 3-0 for the Rams when she upended Devi Jadeja, 6-0, 6-2, at the second spot and Angelika Dabu wrapped up the match for Fordham with a straight set win over Aurora Davis, 6-0, 6-4, at third singles.
Julie Leong added another point for Fordham with a 6-3, 6-4 win at sixth singles over Kelly Mulquin.
The Rams will return to action next Saturday, March 31st, as they travel to Stony Brook, N.Y., to take on the University at Stony Brook at 11:00 a.m.
