Baseball Hosts Marist in Second Game of Homestand

Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham Rams have their second of five straight home games on Wednesday, as the team plays host to the Marist Red Foxes at Houlihan Park.

Fordham looks to rebound from a rough loss on Tuesday to Stony Brook, where the team committed five errors and allowed 11 runs. Marist heads into today's game having dropped five of their last six games, including a 10-3 loss to Albany on Tuesday.

SCOUTING MARIST: The Red Foxes are 4-10 this season, following a 10-3 loss to Albany on Tuesday.

Offensively, the team is hitting .274 as a group, and is led by Mike Orefice, who is batting .333 with 10 runs scored, five doubles, and six RBI. Ben Luderer is also hitting well at .326 with five RBI, while Pat Welsh and Mark Brennan are tied for the team lead with nine RBI each.

On the mound, the team bolsters a 6.71 team ERA and a .314 opponent batting average.

WE'RE GOIN' STREAKIN': (as of 3/19) Tim Swatek is hitting .350 (7-20) over his last seven contests, posting two doubles, two home runs, and five RBI... Mike Mauri batted .467 (7-15) over his last four games with three multi-hit contests. He along with Joseph Charest were both named to the Strike Out Cancer All-Tournament team over this past weekend... Matthew Cianci is hitting .321 over his last seven games, scoring eight runs with three stolen bases... Joseph Charest threw his first career complete game on Sunday, pitching a four-hitter and recording his first win of the season... Chris Pike tossed 7.2 innings in his last outing, giving up just one earned run to Maine.

MAURI & CHAREST NAMED TO STRIKE OUT CANCER ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM (3/18): Fordham juniors Mike Mauri and Joseph Charest were both selected to the Seton Hall Strike Out Cancer All-Tournament team, it was announced at the conclusion of the tournament on March 18th.

Mauri hit .455 for the tournament, collecting five hits in 11 at bats, while notching a double, a run scored and two RBI.

Charest tossed his first career complete game in a 3-2 win over Maine. He allowed two runs on four hits with three strikeouts, and induced a season-high 17 ground outs.

UPCOMING GAMES: The Rams continue their homestand on Friday, when the team opens Atlantic 10 play against Massachusetts at 3:30 PM, beginning a three-game series. Saturday's game is set for 1:00 PM, while Sunday's is at noon. The Rams are then back on the road locally at LIU on March 28th, before heading to St. Bonaventure for a three-game series, March 30-Apr. 1.
