March 20, 2012

Newport News, Va. - Fordham softball's Michele Daubman (North Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) was named the Atlantic 10 Softball Rookie of the Week it was announced on Monday, March 19, 2012, by the league office. This is the first career Atlantic 10 weekly honor for Daubman.

The freshman displayed her skills both at the plate and on the mound for the Rams last week, hitting safely in five of the six games Fordham played, along with picking up her first collegiate victory in a complete game shutout performance against George Washington. Daubman went eight-for-18 from the plate, including two multi-hit games to lead the Rams. She was also named the Most Outstanding Player at the JMU Days Inn Invitational tournament over the weekend.

In the first game of the week, Daubman was 1-for-2 in a 4-3 loss to Boston University on Tuesday. After going hitless against Pittsburgh in Fordham's first game on Friday, she recorded a 2-for-3 game with a double against James Madison. Saturday saw Daubman have a 1-for-2 day at the plate against George Washington, while throwing a six-hit shutout against the Colonials in the circle. In the complete game, she struck out two and didn't walk a batter. Daubman got some revenge against the Panthers on Saturday, as she was 3-for-5 at the plate with a stolen base.

Daubman is honored along with Cyndill Matthew of Massachusetts and Temple's Sarah Prezioso, who were named Atlantic 10 Softball Co-Players of the Week and Massachusetts' Sarah Plourde, who was named Pitcher of the Week.

After nearly a month on the road, the Fordham softball team will have its home opener on Tuesday, March 20, on the newly renovated Bahoshy Field against St. John's at 3:00 PM.
