Newport News, Va. -
Lindsey Kay Bright and Jen Mineau were named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week, respectively; it was announced on Monday from the league office. They are the first Fordham honorees in either category this season.
Bright, a senior outfielder from Federal Way, Washington, had a perfect week at the plate, as she went 9-for-9 over a span of five games at the Under Armour Showcase Tournament in Clearwater, Florida. She also walked three times and posted a spotless 1.000 on base percentage, as she reached safely in all 12 plate appearances. The left fielder, who is in the midst of a six-game hitting streak, picked up two RBI, scored four runs and stole a base as the team went 3-2 in the tournament. This was the first time Bright ever took home the A-10 Player of the Week award. She captured the Rookie of the Week accolade twice as a freshman.
Mineau, a senior from Schaghticoke, New York, was a flawless 3-0 in her three complete games last week. In the 21 innings, Mineau allowed just one earned run, surrendered 11 hits and struck out 35 batters. She threw back-to-back complete game shutouts, striking out ten and allowing just a pair of hits in a 3-0 win over Green Bay on Friday and then blanking Western Michigan while fanning eleven and giving up just four hits in a 6-0 win that handed Fordham head coach Bridget Orchard her 500th career head coaching victory.
Although this is the first Pitcher of the Week award for Mineau this year, she took home the honor eleven times previously in her career.
The Fordham softball team concludes play at the Under Armour Showcase Tournament on Tuesday, March 13, as they meet Boston University at 3:30 PM.
