Swimming & Diving Closes Out Home Season with Sweep of St. Francis on Senior Night

Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham swimming & diving teams hosted their final meet of the regular season on Wednesday night against St. Francis (NY) College, and celebrated the final home meet for 12 seniors. The Rams sent off the senior class with a sweep of the Terriers, as the Fordham men won, 136-71, while the women defeated St. Francis, 127-69.

Prior to the meet, Fordham honored the senior class of 2012, consisting of Kelly Bunster, Jon Castaldo, Meg Conroy, Courtney Collyer, Elizabeth Dorger, Joseph Hines, Giulia Kaftan, Andrea Krok, Sean McManus, Patrick Mulligan, Chris Schneck, and Alexandra Wessel.

Fordham's swimmers and divers then posted the top marks in every event on the night, which began with the 200 medley relay. The women's team of Wessel, Kara Field, Brienne Ryan, and Aurelia O'Keefe posted a time of 1:50.94 to win the event, while the men's group of Michael Grimmett-Norris, Hines, Devon Morris, and Patrick Militti won in a time of 1:36.91.

Wessel, Field, Ryan, Grimmett-Norris, Hines, Morris, and Militti would all go on to win individual events. Field won the 200 women's freestyle in 1:53.71 and Wessel won the 100 freestyle (53.72), while Grimmett-Norris won the men's 200 freestyle (1:47.87) and the 500 freestyle (4:52.56) event. Ryan earned top honors in the 100 butterfly in 56.37 seconds, with Hines taking the 100 breaststroke in 1:01.21. Morris took home the 100 backstroke in 53.47 seconds, while Militti won the 200 individual medley in 1:58.33.

Besides Grimmett-Norris, Collyer, Krok, Shintaro Noguchi, and Kevin Wong each won two events on the evening. Collyer took home the 50 freestyle in 24.50 seconds, as well as the 100 breaststroke in a season-best time of 1:08.06, while Noguchi won the 50 (21.12) and 100 (46.41) freestyle events. Krok and Wong swept the diving events with Krok scoring 277.50 (1M) and 280.13 (3M), while Wong scored 249.90 (1M) and 244.43 (3M).

Other individual event winners included Andrew Hendrickson in the 1000 freestyle (9:54.73), Shannon Jones in the 200 individual medley (2:11.48), Brandon Strong in the 100 butterfly (53.91), Kellie Lyver in the 100 backstroke (1:00.56) and Victoria McGovern in the 500 freestyle (5:18.98).

The final event was the 200 freestyle relay, which saw the women's team of O'Keefe, Jones, Alana Biagioli, and Field take first in 1:40.77, while the men's group of Hendrickson, Nick Burbidge, Ben Dwyer, and Morris won in a time of 1:29.62.

The Fordham swimming & diving teams now prepare for the 2012 Atlantic 10 Championship, which will be held February 22nd-25th at the Flickinger Center in Buffalo, New York.
