Fordham's Julian Saad Named Atlantic 10 Men's Indoor Track & Field Performer of the Week

Feb. 6, 2012

Newport News, Va. - Fordham University junior Julian Saad (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) was named the Atlantic 10's Men's Indoor Track & Field Performer of the Week, today by the league office. It is Saad's first career performer award for indoor track. Previously, his career weekly honors had been for cross country.

Saad paced the Rams at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational on Saturday with a school record performance in the 3,000 meter championship race. Saad placed eighth in the 3000m competition in a time of 8:13.88, breaking Pat Lavery's previous school record time of 8:18 set in 1989. Saad's time also qualified him for the IC4A Championship later this season and was the top time in the Atlantic 10 this year.

Villanova's Mathew Mildenhall won the event in a time of 8:06.23, followed by MacLean O'Donnell of Texas A&M (8:07.95), BYU's Tylor Thatcher (8:09.28), Morgan Pearson of Duke (8:09.71), Columbia's Nico Composto (8:09.80), Kansas' Greg Bussing (8:11.84), North Carolina's Isaac Presson (8:13.79) and Saad.

Saad and the rest of the Fordham track & field team will next be in action on February 10-11, when the Rams travel to Boston, Massachusetts for the Valentine's Day Classic at the BU Track & Tennis Center.
