Fordham University freshman guard Bryan Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood) was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week it was announced by the conference office today. The honor is the second weekly rookie award for Smith and the third for a Fordham player this season (Chris Gaston was named Co-Player of the Week on December 26th).
In two games on the week, Smith averaged 18.5 ppg, shooting 11-for-25 from the field, including 7-of-16 from behind the arc, while also recording three rebounds, three assists and two steals. His best game of the week came on Wednesday at Temple where he scored a season-high 23 points, shooting 8-for-14 from the floor, including 4-for-6 from long distance, as the Rams fell to the Owls, 78-60.
In the other game last week, Smith netted 14 points and had three rebounds, three assists and two steals in a 69-62 loss to Charlotte in the Rose Hill Gym on Saturday.
On the year, Smith is averaging 10.2 ppg, third best on the team, and 3.0 rpg. He leads the team in three-pointers made with 42 and steals with 32 and is third with 34 assists.
The Rams will next be in action on Saturday, February 11th, as they host the University of Dayton Flyers in an Atlantic 10 game in the Rose Hill Gym at 1:00 p.m. The game will be televised live on the YES Network and can be heard live on WFUV (90.7 FM) and www.wfuv.org.
