Ithaca Box Score | Vassar Box Score
Bronx, N.Y. -
The Fordham squash team wrapped up regular season play on Sunday, as the Rams earned a 7-2 victory over Ithaca College in the early match, while falling to Vassar by the same score in the late match.
Overall the Rams were led by Raymond Chen and Alex Williams who both posted two wins on the day.
Chen defeated Ithaca's Tynisha Avila at the fourth slot in straight sets, 11-9, 11-8, and 11-3, while also topping Vassar's Ricardo Espinoza at the fifth slot in four sets, 12-14, 11-9, 11-6, and 11-6.
Williams earned his two victories at the fifth and sixth slots. First, he defeated Calvin Healy in three sets at the fifth slot, 11-6, 14-12, and 11-3, and then overcame Vassar's Riley McCabe in straight sets at the sixth slot, 11-6, 11-8, and 11-6.
Fordham's Andrew Grosner, Jack O'Brien, Chris Souther, Ethan Brooks, and Matthew Ieraci each split their two matches, with all five coming against Ithaca.
The toughest matches of the day however belonged to Fordham's Quetzalli Torres, who came up on the wrong end of two five-set matches. First, Torres battled back from a set down to force a deciding set with Ithaca's Fargo Balliet, but fell short, 10-12, 11-9, 3-11, 11-8, and 8-11. In his second match, it was déjà vu for Torres against Vassar's Shail Bajpai, dropping the match, 12-10, 10-12, 11-6, 10-12, and 12-10.
The Fordham squash team will next be in action on February 17th-19th, when the Rams travel to Princeton, New Jersey for the CSA Team Championship.
