Results

Albany, N.Y. - The Fordham women's tennis team won five of six singles match, while taking two of three doubles matches, as the Rams improved to 6-0 on the year with a 6-1 victory over the Albany Great Danes in Albany, N.Y.

The Rams began the match by earning the doubles point. Fordham's Amy Simidian and Angelika Dabu defeated Livia Gherman and Rocio Lopez, 8-5, at first doubles, while Sarah Ali and Bella Genkina topped Kirsten Scott and Cheryl Kukkonen, 9-7 at second doubles.

In singles play, it was two come from behind efforts that helped seal the win for Fordham. Hanna Fritzinger (6-4, 6-2), Ali (7-5, 6-3) and Simidian (6-3, 6-4) all won their matches in straight sets at sixth, second and first singles, respectively.

Fordham then got rallying performances from Dabu and Leong for the 6-1 win. Dabu dropped the opening set to Kukkonen, 4-6, at third singles, but rallied in the second set for a 7-5 win, as well as a 10-7 super tie-breaker win. Leong lost the opening stanza to Sarah Iannone at fifth singles, 2-6, however Leong posted 6-1and 6-2 set wins to win the match in three sets.

The Fordham women's tennis team will next be in action on Friday, February 10th, when the team takes on Richmond at 4:00 PM in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the University of Pennsylvania.
