Feb. 28, 2012

Philadelphia, Pa. - Bus Sign-Up Info | Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball Championship Info

The stars were aligned for the Fordham University women's basketball squad last Sunday as a Rams' win, coupled with a UMass loss, earned Fordham a spot in the 2012 Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball Championships to be held from March 2-5 at Saint Joseph's University's Hagan Arena in Philadelphia. The Rams, seeded 12th, will open play on Friday against Saint Joseph's University, the fifth seed, at 2:30 PM.

Fans of the team can sign-up for a bus heading to Hagan Arena by clicking on the link above or by going to the women's basketball home page. The fan bus will leave in front of the McGinley Center on Friday morning at 10:00 AM and will return to campus immediately following the game.

The first part of the equation on Sunday called for the Rams to defeat Saint Louis, which they did in a 64-61, overtime thriller. They then needed Xavier to defeat UMass and the Musketeers obliged, as Fordham and Massachusetts finished with identical 3-11 conference records. But it's the Rams who earned the 12th spot due to a 56-54 win over the Minutewomen on January 28th, thanks to a last second shot from Emily Tapio.

The Rams and Hawks will meet for the second time this season as Saint Joseph's took the initial contest, 57-46, in overtime, on January 18 in Philadelphia. In that game, Cody Sims buried a three-pointer at the end of regulation to force the extra time before the Rams eventually succumbed.

Under first-year head coach Stephanie Gaitley, Fordham finished the regular season with a 12-17 mark and notched notable wins over Winthrop, San Diego and Central Florida.

The 2011-12 season marks the third straight year the Rams have advanced to the A-10 tournament.
