Baseball Opens Three-Game Series With Campbell on Friday

Biues Creek, N.C. - The Fordham baseball team is back in North Carolina this weekend, as the Rams begin a three-game series against the Campbell Fighting Camels at Taylor Field in Biues Creek, North Carolina.

SERIES HISTORY: Campbell won the only previous meeting between the two schools last season, a 5-2 victory at Taylor Field.

SCOUTING CAMPBELL: Campbell is 3-1 on the season after taking two of three games from Marist last weekend, while topping Duke on Tuesday.

Leading the offense, Jake Kirkland is batting .500 though his first four games for Campbell, collecting two doubles, two triples and three RBI. Kyle Holmstrom has also gotten off to a good start, hitting .471 with three RBI.

In the rotation, Matt Sergey will get the Friday start. Last week, he earned a win over Marist, throwing six innings with six strikeouts and did not give up an earned run. Frank Zier and Paul Eyster will get the call on Saturday for the doubleheader.

2012 CAPTAINS: The senior trio of Jordan Grangard, Brian Kownacki, and Ryan Maghini will serve as the team's captains this season.

WE'RE GOIN' STREAKING: Transfer catcher Zach Small started off his Fordham career well against Western Carolina, batting .500 (5-10) with a double and a home run... Mike Mauri batted .385 (5-13) against WCU, collecting three doubles and three RBI... Ryan Maghini scored five runs over the three-game series with Western Carolina, while Stephen McSherry and Brian Kownacki each drove in three runs... Daniel Munday made two relief appearance against WCU and did not allow an earned run over four innings of work... Joseph Charest threw a career-long 6.2 innings in his first start of the season, allowing four earned runs and collecting three strikeouts.

UPCOMING GAMES: The Rams will open their home schedule this week, when Fordham hosts Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday at 3:00 PM. That game opens a six-game homestand for Fordham with doubleheaders against Quinnipiac (Mar. 2) and Hofstra (Mar. 4), and a single game against Albany (Mar. 7).
