With one day remaining at the 2012 Atlantic 10 Swimming & Diving Championship in Buffalo, New York, the Fordham men's team continue its climb up the standings, sitting in fifth place through the third day. Day three saw Fordham earn its third event win of the Championship, as well as see two more school records fall.
Massachusetts still leads the team competition with 505 points, followed by St. Bonaventure (386), Xavier (371), La Salle (306), Fordham (279), Saint Louis (266), and George Washington (252).
Fordham opened the evening with three finalists in the 400 individual medley. Kevin Kosciuk earned fifth overall in the "A" final in 4:02.05, while Michael Grimmett-Norris was eighth in 4:08.25. Zach Jacobsen ended up second in the consolation final (10th overall) in 4:03.78.
Fordham then earned its third Atlantic 10 event title of the Championship. This time, it was in the 100 butterfly, as Shintaro Noguchi won the event in a school record time of 48.86 seconds. He broke the old mark of 49.52, set by Akira Kosugi in 1996. Devon Morris also scored in the "A" final in sixth with a time of 49.78 seconds. Patrick Militti was the final scorer in 13th overall, clocking in at 50.53 seconds.
The 200 freestyle had one Ram make the "B" final, as
Nicholas Belfanti placed 14th overall In 1:42.44.
In the 100 breaststroke, Fordham's second school record of the day fell, when Ben Dwyer placed fifth in the "A" final in 56.98 seconds. That time surpassed the old school record of 57.11, set by Sean Burke in 1997. The Rams also had Sean McManus score in the event, as he took 14th overall in 59.02 seconds.
Thomas Yi was the last individual finalist, as he placed 12th overall in the 100 backstroke event in 51.60 seconds.
The final diving competition also took place as Tim Landau-Smith (167.90) and Kevin Wong (161.85), placed ninth and tenth, respectively, in the three-meter dive.
The last event of the day was the 400 medley relay, where Fordham's group of Yi, Dwyer, Noguchi, and Morris placed fourth in a season-best time of 3:21.75, which was just .07 seconds shy of another school record.
The final day of competition at the Championship will take place on Saturday with preliminary races at 10:30 AM and the finals at 6:30 PM.
