Day three of the 2012 Atlantic 10 Swimming & Diving Championship has concluded at the Flickinger Center in Buffalo, New York, and saw another Fordham event win for the women, as the team remains in second place with 358.5 points. Fordham trails only Richmond, who has 516 points, going into the final day.
Behind Richmond and Fordham are La Salle (311), Massachusetts (267), Duquesne (185), Rhode Island (182), St. Bonaventure (169), Xavier (165), George Washington (163.5), and Saint Louis (118).
Friday's finals began with the 400 individual medley, where Frances Warren placed seventh in the "A" final in 4:32.67, her best time of the season.
The 100 butterfly event was next as Courtney Collyer captured Fordham's third event title of the Championship, winning the event in 54.32 seconds, setting the school record with an NCAA "B" cut time. The previous record was held by teammate Kelly Bunster at 55.43 seconds, set in 2009. Bunster would win the "B" final in 56.76 seconds, good for ninth overall, while Aurelia O'Keefe (56.90) and Miranda Morton (57.09) were 12th and 14th overall respectively.
Next up was the 200 freestyle event, where the Rams had three swimmers in the finals.
Alexandra Wessel took sixth in the "A" final in 1:51.32, while
Kara Field was eighth in 1:52.43.
Alana Biagioli made the "B" final, taking 12th overall in 1:52.59.
In the 100 breaststroke, only Savannah Coe made the finals, as she tied for 11th overall in the consolation final in a time of 1:06.91.
The 100 backstroke was the final individual event, as Brienne Ryan earned Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honors, by placing second in 53.88 seconds. Ariana Peschke also scored in the consolation final, taking second (10th overall) in 57.09 seconds.
The last women's event was the 400 medley relay, where Fordham's team of Ryan, Collyer, Bunster and Wessel earned Second Team All-Atlantic 10 by placing second in a season-best time of 3:44.27. In addition, Ryan's lead off leg in the backstroke clocked in at 52.88 seconds, breaking her own school record of 53.44 seconds, and bettering her NCAA "B" cut time.
The final day of competition at the Championship will take place on Saturday with preliminary races at 10:30 AM and the finals at 6:30 PM.
