Squash Ends 2012 CSA Team Championship With Loss To Vanderbilt

Princeton, N.J. - The Fordham squash team ended its run at the 2012 CSA Team Championship in the Sereus Cup Division on Sunday, falling to Vanderbilt by a 5-4 final score.

Like Saturday, Fordham went into the match with a 3-0 lead, as Vanderbilt was shorthanded and had to default the #7, #8, and #9 matches to the Rams.

Each of the remaining six matches were extremely tight. The Commodores earned their first two wins at the #2 and #5 slots in straight sets to make it, 3-2 in the overall match standing.

At #4, Fordham's Eli Plangger was just edged out by Vanderbilt's Austin Schiff, 15-13, 11-9, and 11-9, knotting the match score at three.

Fordham's Jack O'Brien split the first two sets with Vanderbilt's Zachary Holt at the #3 position, but Holt came out with 11-9 and 13-11 wins in set three and four to put the Commodores ahead.

Andriy Kulak evened the match back at four for Fordham, as he topped Tyler Kopp in five sets, 4-11, 11-8, 11-8, 7-11, and 12-10 at the #1 slot.

The final match went Vanderbilt's way, as Stephen O'Leary defeated Alex Williams, 11-6, 11-7, 7-11, and 11-7.

The Rams end the season with a 5-13 record.
