Squash Drops Opener at CSA Team Championship to Illinois

Princeton, N.J. - The Fordham squash team opened play at the 2012 CSA Team Championship on Friday, competing in the Sereus Cup Division. The Rams took on Illinois on day one, falling by an 8-1 score.

The Rams' lone win came at the #1 slot, as Andriy Kulak defeated Naman Jiandani in comeback fashion, 4-11, 6-11, 11-0, 11-0, 11-0.

Fordham had three other matches go the distance at the #3, #6, and #7 slots, but came out on the wrong end, as Jack O'Brien (#3) was edged by Vedant Bubna (5-11, 11-8, 4-11, 11-4, 11-7), Alex Williams (#6) fell to Prateek Arora (11-7, 7-11, 7-11, 11-5, 11-9), and Chris Souther (#7) lost to Kevan Lee Lum (11-5, 10-12, 4-11, 11-9, 11-3).

Other Fordham players, Andrew Grosner (#2), Eli Plangger (#4), and Raymond Chen (#5), all fell by 3-1 scores, while the Rams' final two players were Ethan Brooks (#8) and Quetzalli Torres (#9), and both were swept in straight sets.

The Rams move into the consolation bracket with the loss and will play Bryant at 3:30 PM on Saturday.
