Women's Tennis Edged By Army, 5-2

West Point, N.Y. - The Fordham women's tennis team took its match with Army to the limit on Sunday at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center in West Point, N.Y. After Army took the doubles point, Fordham got singles win from Amy Simidian and Angelika Dabu, but came out on the wrong end of two three-set matches at fourth and fifth singles, falling to the Black Knights, 5-2.

In doubles action, Simidian and Dabu posted a first doubles win over Army's Della and Elle Taylor, 8-2, but Fordham could not get a second win for the doubles point.

Then in singles action, Simidian led the way with a first singles victory over Army's Erin Colton, 6-3, 6-3. Dabu followed with Fordham's second win at third singles over Army's Margaret Iliev, 6-3, 5-7, and 6-4.

After Army earned straight set wins at second and sixth singles, the match came down to three-set matches at both fourth and fifth singles.

Fordham's Bella Genkina won the first set at fourth singles over Della Taylor, 6-4, but Taylor rallied to win the next two sets, 6-4, 6-3, and take the match. Leong fought her way back against Natalie Allen, as she took the second set in a tie-breaker, 7-6 (8-6). Allen though grabbed the deciding set, 6-1, giving the Black Knights the 5-2 win.

The Fordham women's tennis team will next be in action on Sunday, February 19th, when the Rams take on Vassar College at noon.
