Dec. 5, 2012

Bronx, N.Y. - Fordham head baseball coach Kevin Leighton announced the addition of six student-athletes to play baseball at Fordham University, starting with the 2014 season. The six student-athletes are outfielder/catcher Mark Donadio (Mt. Sinai, N.Y./Mt. Sinai), infielder Matthew Kozuch (Glen Rock, N.J./Saint Joseph Regional), outfielder Jason Lundy (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Boro), pitcher Donald May (Buzzards Bay, Mass./Coyle Cassidy), infielder/pitcher Luke Stampfl (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills West), and pitcher/infielder Greg Weissert (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore).

Donadio, a 6-0 outfielder/catcher from Mt. Sinai, New York, is a three-sport varsity athlete in baseball, basketball, and football at Mt. Sinai High School. He earned All-County, All-League, and All-State honors in baseball as a sophomore and a junior for Coach Eric Reichenbach's Mustangs. In football, under Coach Vin Ammarato, Donadio earned All-Division honors as a junior. A captain of both the baseball and football teams, he made the Principal's List at Mt. Sinai every year. Donadio also played summer ball for the MLI Phantoms under Keith Osik, winning the Town of Brookhaven Summer Championship in 2012. Donadio's twin brother, Michael, will be attending St. John's University on a baseball scholarship.

Coach Leighton on Donadio: "Mark is a dynamic player. He has size, strength, athleticism, and speed. He brings a very competitive attitude to the field and we are excited to have him join us next year."

Matthew Kozuch

Kozuch, a 6-0 infielder from Glen Rock, New Jersey, is a three-sport athlete at St. Joseph Regional High School for the Green Knights, earning three varsity letters under Coach Frank Salvano's baseball squad. He was named the Saint Joseph Regional Most Outstanding Athlete in 2009 and 2010, and received Honorable Mention All-League standing as a junior. A team captain for upcoming season, Kozuch is a member of the National Honor Society, the Spanish Honors Society, the Principal's List, the high honor holl, and is ranked 4th in his graduating class. Away from Saint Joseph, he played summer ball for the New Jersey Seminoles under Rick Sanchez, where he was a member of the CABA/NY Elite Qualifier Champions.

Coach Leighton on Kozuch: "Matt comes from a very good program that turns out solid players every year. He is an exceptional athlete that we feel can hit towards the middle of the lineup."

Jason Lundy

Lundy, a 6-1 outfielder from Freehold, New Jersey, is a two-sport athlete at Freehold Boro High School, where he has played for the varsity soccer team and the varsity baseball squad under Coach Jon Block. In baseball, Lundy is a two-time All-Division B-North and All-District selection, and is on pace to break many of Freehold's offensive records, including hits, games played and stolen bases. He also garnered the same accolades for soccer, helping Freehold Boro to three B-North Championships from 2009-11. In the classroom, Lundy is a member of National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society. He also played summer ball for the New Jersey Niners.

Coach Leighton on Lundy: "Jason is another physical player who runs well. He has shown a good bat with some power at the plate and a solid arm in the outfield. We are excited about what he will bring to our program."

Donald May

May, a 6-3 pitcher from Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts, has lettered in baseball for three years under Coach Ken Lalli at Coyle Cassidy High School. He earned EAC All-Star status in his junior campaign, while also competing at the Bay State Games. Away from the field, May is a Renaissance Scholar at Coyle Cassidy.

Coach Leighton on May: "Donny is a big, powerful right-handed pitcher. He has shown an upper 80's fastball with good command to go along with a power slider."

Luke Stampfl

Stampfl, a 6-3 infielder/pitcher from Dix Hills, New York, has lettered four years at Half Hollow Hills High School West under Coach Tom Migliozzi. In 2011, he broke the school record for batting average (.513) and was named All-League. One year later, Stampfl was named team MVP and All-County, while earning the Suffolk County Silver Slugger Award. He is a member of the National Honor Society and high honor roll. He also played summer ball for the Long Island Titans under Coach Dave Walker.

Coach Leighton on Stampfl: "Luke has the potential to be a two-way player for us in the infield and on the mound. He has very good defensive skills and has been clocked in the upper 80's. At the plate, he has the ability to hit for power and average. We feel that Luke can make an immediate impact on our program."

Greg Weissert

Weissert, a 6-2 pitcher from Bay Shore, New York, is a three-year varsity baseball player at Bay Shore High School under Coach Mike Herbst. He is a two-time All-League selection, while earning All-County and Team MVP honors in 2012. He was selected to Baseball Player Magazine's Top 25 on Long Island and the MSG Varsity Top Long Island Player List. A team captain as a junior, Weissert is an honor roll student and played summer ball for the Long Island Whalers.

Coach Leighton on Weissert: "Greg is another big strong right hander who competes. He has very good command and two plus out pitches in his curveball and slider. We feel that he can be a contributor right away for us on the mound and are excited about his future here."
