The Fordham University Rams continue their 2012-13 season, the 110th season of varsity basketball at Rose Hill, by hosting the Siena College Saints in the Rose Hill Gym today at noon in a game that will be televised live on the YES Network with Rich Ackerman and Jim Spanarkel as the announcers. The game will also be broadcast live on WFUV (90.7 FM) and on wfuv.org as well as being streamed live at www.FordhamSports.com with Mack Rosenberg and Steve Marasco calling the action. You can also follow the game via Live Stats.
Fordham enters the game with a 2-9 record after an 88-73 setback to the University of Connecticut in Hartford on Friday night. Siena enters the game with a 2-9 record and is coming off a 75-55 MAAC loss at Manhattan on December 9.
Sunday afternoon's contest will be the 21st meeting between Fordham and Siena on the hardwood with the Rams leading the all-time series, which started in 1949, 11-9. Fordham has taken two of the past three meetings, including a 74-59 win last year on December 12 in Albany as Chris Gaston led five Rams in double figures with 16 points and he grabbed 15 rebounds while Braden Frazier had 14 points and seven assists.
On the court, Fordham is led by junior guard Branden Frazier, who is averaging a team-high 16.5 ppg after netting a career-high 26 points at UConn on Friday night, and he leads the team with 51 assists, while senior forward Chris Gaston, who missed six games with an injury, is averaging 12.2 ppg and 7.4 rpg. Sophomore center Ryan Canty has picked up his game lately, averaging 12.5 ppg and 9.7 rpg over the past six contests and 7.7 ppg and 6.6 rpg on the year. He leads the team and is third in the Atlantic 10 in field goal percentage, hitting 41 of his 71 attempts (57.7%) and leads the team with ten blocks while also ranking second on the squad, and eleventh in the Atlantic 10, in rebounding.
Rams to honor Wounded Warrior
Fordham University will honor Johnnie Hicks, a member of the Wounded Warrior project who will serve as an honorary team captain, to the Siena game.
A retired Army Specialist, Hicks born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y. Once joining the military Johnnie was stationed at Fort Irwin in California. He completed one tour to Iraq and was awarded a series of medals including Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Army Service Medal, Overseas Medal, Driver, and Mechanic Badge.
