The Fordham University men's basketball squad will be in action tonight as they face the University of Connecticut Huskies in the XL Center in Hartford, Conn., at 7:00 in a game that will be televised live on the SNY Network. The game will also be broadcast live on WFUV (90.7 FM) and on wfuv.org.
Fordham enters the game with a 2-8 record after a 63-60 win over Princeton University on Saturday afternoon at the Barclays Center. Connecticut enters the game with an 8-2 record and is coming off an 84-50 home win over Maryland-Eastern Shore on Tuesday night.
On the court, Fordham is led by junior guard Branden Frazier, who is averaging a team-high 15.6 ppg and leads the team with 46 assists, while senior forward Chris Gaston, who returned to action on Saturday after missing six games with an injury, scored 16 points and added five rebounds against Princeton on Saturday. Sophomore center Ryan Canty is averaging 13.8 ppg and 10.6 rpg over the past five contests and 7.9 ppg and 6.8 rpg, tenth best in the Atlantic 10, on the season. He is shooting a team-best 58.5% (38-65) from the field, fifth best in the Atlantic 10.
Friday night's contest will be the 22nd meeting between Fordham and Connecticut on the hardwood. The Huskies lead the all-time series, which started in 1954, 11-10, and Connecticut has taken the past five meetings, including a 94-75 win on December 12, 1999 in Storrs in the last meeting between the two schools. Fordham is 162-270 all-time against schools currently in the Big East.
