Peter Volkert Resigns as Fordham Head Volleyball Coach

Dec. 11, 2012

Bronx, N.Y. - Fordham University head volleyball coach Peter Volkert announced his resignation from the position effective immediately it was announced today by Director of Athletics Dave Roach.

"We really appreciate the time and dedication Peter Volkert made to the Fordham University student-athletes and we wish him well in his future endeavors," said Roach.

Volkert, the tenth head coach in Fordham volleyball history, just completed his ninth year at Fordham, leading the Rams to a 14-19 finish, 6-8 in the Atlantic 10 Conference.

After finishing just a game out of the conference playoffs in Volkert's first year and then recording 19 wins in 2005, Fordham broke through with its first Atlantic 10 Tournament berth in 2006. That season, the Rams tied a school record with 21 and four players received All-Atlantic 10 honors.

The 2006 appearance at the Atlantic 10 Tournament was the first of three straight for the Rams as Volkert took relatively young teams to the 2007 and 2008 championship. Fordham also appeared in the Atlantic 10 championship in 2010.

Under Volkert's guidance, Fordham has had 12 student-athletes earn All-Atlantic 10 accolades.

The Rams also excelled in the classroom under Volkert's tutelage receiving the AVCA Team Academic Award for a having a team GPA over 3.3 in 2009 and 2010, while individually Christi Griffiths was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team.

Prior to arriving at Rose Hill served as head coach at Manhattan College for seven seasons, leading the Jaspers to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) championships in each of his last two years.

Volkert's overall record as a collegiate head coach is 363-303 in 20 years.

A national search for a replacement will begin immediately.
