The Fordham University Rams continue their 2012-13 season, the 110th season of varsity basketball at Rose Hill, by traveling to Cambridge, Mass., to face the Harvard University Crimson in the Lavietes Pavilion on Saturday, December 1 at 1:00 PM. Fordham enters the game with a 1-5 record after a 65-58 loss to Manhattan College in the annual Battle of the Bronx in the Rose Hill Gym on Thursday night. Harvard enters the game with a 2-3 record and is coming off an 85-78 home loss to the University of Vermont on Tuesday.
On the court, Fordham is led by junior guard Branden Frazier, who is averaging a team-high 16.7 ppg and he leads the team with 26 assists, while sophomore guard Bryan Smith is averaging 10.2 ppg and he leads the squad with 13 three-pointers. Chris Gaston is netting 11.3 ppg and a team-high 8.7 rpg but will be out of action for the next few weeks due to an injury. Gaston, who led the team in scoring (17.1 ppg) and rebounding (9.9 rpg) last year, has 937 career rebounds, fifth all-time at Fordham, and 1,462 career points, ninth all-time at Rose Hill. He is 31 rebounds behind Bill McCadney (1955-58) for fourth on the all-time rebounding list and 62 points behind Brenton Butler on the all-time scoring list.
Saturday afternoon's contest will be the 12th meeting between Fordham and Harvard on the hardwood with the Rams leading the all-time series, which started in 1962, 8-3. Fordham took last year's meeting, 60-54, in the Rose Hill Gym on January 3, as Bryan Smith netted 22 points, shooting 5-for-8 from behind the arc, and Chris Gaston added 18 points and ten rebounds.
Fordham is 130-78 all-time against Ivy League schools, including a win over Penn earlier this year.
