Bronx, N.Y. - In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, plenty of volunteers have stepped up to the plate to assist in the clean-up effort and pitch in to help those in the deepest of need. The Fordham's cross country and track teams, which have a number of student-athlete from affected areas, dove in this week to assist those efforts. The team got involved in two major projects, one here in the Bronx and one on Long Island.

In the Bronx, the Rams headed to their home away from home, Van Cortlandt Park, to assist the New York City Parks Department in its clean-up. Most of the effort dealt with the many downed trees in the area, trying to salvage playgrounds and other vastly used areas of the park.

Van Cortlandt Park is the home site of Fordham cross country, the Metropolitan Championship, and the next week's annual ECAC/IC4A Championship. In conjunction with the ECAC/IC4A Championship, the park will celebrate its 100th anniversary of hosting local and national cross country meets.

On Long Island, Fordham joined St. John's track & field in a donation drive to collect food, clothing, and supplies for the countless victims of the storm.
