For the sixth time this season, and the fourth straight week he has been eligible, Fordham senior kicker Patrick Murray (Mahwah, N.J./Don Bosco Prep) was named Patriot League Special Teams Player of the Week it was announced today.
In a 27-24 loss at Bucknell on Saturday, Murray connected on all three field goal attempts, converting kicks from 41, 22 and 39 yards to bring his season total to 21, setting a new Fordham and Patriot league mark for most field goals in a season. He snapped the previous school and League mark of 18 set by Matt Fordyce in 2002.
Murray's also punted three times for 122 yards at Bucknell, an average of 40.7 yards/punt and sent three of his six kickoffs into the end zone for touchbacks.
On the year, Murray is 21-of-24 in field goal attempts, with four field goals of 50 yards or longer. He leads the NCAA FCS in field goals/game (2.33) and has the most 50-yarders of any NCAA Division I kicker. Murray also leads the League in kick scoring, averaging 9.6 points/game, ninth best in the NCAA FCS.
Murray also leads the NCAA FCS in punting, averaging 46.0 yards/punt, with 16 punts of 50 yards or longer, and has 37 touch backs on 56 kickoffs.
The Rams return to action on Saturday, November 10, as they host the Lafayette College Leopards on Jack Coffey Field at 1:00 p.m. in a game that will be televised live on ESPN3.com.
