Men's Basketball Faces Fairfield Tonight in 2012 NIT Season Tip-Off Consolation Game

The Fordham University Rams continue their 2012-2013 season by facing the Fairfield University Stags tonight in the consolation bracket of the NIT Season Tip-Off in Lehigh's Stabler Arena at 6:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on WFUV (90.7 FM) and on wfuv.org and you can also follow the game via Live Stats.

Fordham enters the game with a 1-3 record after defeating the University of Pennsylvania in a consolation game of the 2012 NIT Season Tip-Off last night at Lehigh. Fairfield enters the game with a 2-2 record after an 82-67 loss at Lehigh last night a consolation game of the 2012 NIT Season Tip-Off.

On the court, Fordham is led by junior guard Branden Frazier, who is averaging a team-high 15.5 ppg and leads the team with 18 assists, while sophomore guard Bryan Smith is averaging 13.3 ppg. Frazier netted a team-high 19 points and added seven assists last night versus Penn while Smith added 14 points. Senior Chris Gaston is netting 11.3 ppg and a team-high 8.7 rpg but will be out of action for the next four-to-six weeks due to an injury. Gaston, who led the team in scoring (17.1 ppg) and rebounding (9.9 rpg) last year, has 937 career rebounds, fifth all-time at Fordham, and 1,462 career points, ninth all-time at Rose Hill. He is 31 rebounds behind Bill McCadney (1955-58) for fourth on the all-time rebounding list and 62 points behind Brenton Butler on the all-time scoring list.

Tuesday night's contest will be the 45th meeting between Fordham and Fairfield on the hardwood with the Rams leading the all-time series, which started in 1962, 32-12. Fairfield has taken the past two meetings, including a 63-55 victory in Fairfield, Conn., on November 15, 2009. The last Fordham win occurred on December 26, 2008 when the Rams upended the Stags, 56-47, in the Rose Hill Gym, the fourth straight win for Fordham over Fairfield. The Rams are 184-193 all-time against other Jesuit schools and 185-135 all-time against MAAC schools.
