Fordham Swimming Trio Earns Weekly Atlantic 10 Honors

Newport News, Va. - For the fourth consecutive week, multiple members of the Fordham swimming & diving teams captured weekly Atlantic 10 honors, it was announced by the league today. Senior Brienne Ryan (New Windsor, N.Y./Cornwall) was selected as the Women's Performer of the Week for the fourth straight week and the 11th time in her career, while Steve Sholdra (Renton, Wash./H.B. Education) was selected as the Men's Rookie of the Week for the third time this season. Theresa Goehring (Essex, Conn./Mercy) was the final award winner, earning Women's Rookie of the Week honors.

Ryan earned Women's Performer of the Week honors for a league-record fourth straight week for her efforts at the 2012 Big Al Open, hosted at Princeton University. She competed in four individual races and was a member of four relay teams. Ryan placed first in the 100-yard backstroke (55.79), second in the 200 backstroke (2:01.02), third in the 50 freestyle (23.86), and sixth in the 100 butterfly (57.90). Three out of four of Ryan's individual races place her in the top spot in conference standings, while also taking the third place spot in the 100 butterfly.

Sholdra received Men's Rookie of the Week accolades after taking two first place victories in the 500 freestyle (4:35.18) and 1650 freestyle (15:40.61), while placing third in the 400 individual medley (4:07.76) and 200 butterfly (1:55.70) at the 2012 Big Al Open. The freshman leads the conference in all four of his individual events, including an impressive 37-second lead in the 1650 freestyle.

Goehring was named Women's Rookie of the Week after posting two top-10 finishes and two top-12 finishes this past weekend at the Princeton Invitational, while also competing in three relays for the Rams. The freshman finished eighth out of 52 swimmers in the 200 individual medley (2:10.10), 12th out of 39 in the 200 freestyle (1:59.61), 11th out of 40 in the 100 backstroke (1:00.81), and 6th out of 27 in the 200 backstroke (2:06.82). She joins teammate Anna Marshall as a rookie award winner this season for Fordham.

Ryan, Sholdra, Goehring and the rest of the Fordham swimming & diving teams will next be in action on November 16-18, as the Rams compete in the Bucknell Invitational in Lewisburg, Pa.
