The Fordham University men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed at the Princeton Invitational on November 9th and 10th with the Rams having three event winners, led by Steve Sholdra who won two events.
Sholdra kept up his hot start to the season, winning the 500 free in a time of 4:35.18 and also talking gold in the 1650 free in a time of 15:40.61. He also placed third in the 400 IM (4:07.76) and 200 fly (1:55.70).
The other event winner for the men was Shintaro Noguchi, who won the 100 fly in a season-best time of 49.99 while also taking second in the 100 free in 46.74 and fourth in the 50 free (21.09 - season-best) and 200 fly (1:55.97).
For the women, Brienne Ryan won the 100 back in a time of 55.79, took second in the 200 back in a season-best time of 2:01.02, placed third in the 50 free in a season-best time of 23.86 and sixth in the 100 fly in a season-best time of 57.90.
In other women's results, Kelly Carroll had a second place showing in the 100 breaststroke in season-best a time of 1:06.47, Anna Marshall was second in the 200 breaststroke in 2:25.74 and Megan Gehrich placed second in the 400 IM in 4:35.21.
In the women's 50 free Alana Biagioli placed 13th (25.01), Kelly Carroll 17th (25.07), Shannon Lulley 18th (25.08) and Chandler Lulley 20th (25.12).
In the 100 free, Biagioli was sixth in 53.84 with Lyver placing tenth (54.80), Chandler Lulley eleventh (54.84), Shannon Lulley 12th (54.86), Carroll 14th (54.90) and Megan Foster 18th (55.21).
Biagioli was fourth in the 200 free in 1:56.28 with Megan Zarriello (1:57.67), Frances Warren (1:58.29) and Kellie Lyver (1:58.69) taking sixth, seventh and eighth in the race. Also placing in the top 20 for the Rams in the 200 free was Theresa Goehring (12th - 1:59.61), Chandler Lulley (15th - 1:59.91) and Megan Gray (16th - 2:00.24).
Megan Zarrirllo took fifth in women's 500 free in a season-best time of 5:07.56 while Biagiolo was eleventh (5:14.44) and Miranda Morton 15th (5:17.64) and Victoria McGovern paced the women in the 1650 free, placing seventh in 18:12.14.
In the 100 breaststroke, Anna Marshall took seventh for Fordham (1:07.97), Gehrich was 17th (1:10.25) and Savannah Coe 19th (1:10.52).
Other Fordham swimmers in the 200 breaststroke included Coe (12th - 2:31.05) and McGovern 917th - 2:35.17).
Jordan Tomimatsu was fifth in the 100 back (59.24) with Spencer Chappell seventh (59.82), McKenna 10th (1:00.50), Goehring 11th (1:00.81), Chandler Lulley 12th (1:00.93) and Lyver 17th (1:02.21).
Tomimatsu (2:06.54), Goehring (2:06.82), Chappell (2:08.29), Zarriello (2:09.28) and McKenna (2:10.01) competed for the Rams in the 200 back, taking fifth, sixth, eighth , eleventh and 12th, respectively.
In the 200 fly, Warren (2:09.83) and Gehrich (2:10.31) were seventh and eighth, respectively, with Jones taking tenth (2:12.32) and Aurelia O'Keefe 12th (2:12.97).
In the 200 IM, Carroll placed fourth in a season-best time of 2:07.73 with Goehring taking eighth (2:10.10), Shannon Lulley placing eleventh (2:11.28), Gehrich finishing 14th (2:12.06) and Foster taking 18th (2:12.56).
Warren took ninth 400 IM (4:44.71) while in the 100 fly, Shannon Jones was eleventh (59.32), Shannon Lulley 12th (59.59), Morton 14th (59.64), Tomimatsu 15th (59.83), Chappell 18th (1:00.83) and Maureen McKenna 20th (1:01.01).
On the diving boards, Claire Parker was 13th on both the one (163.45) and three meter (162.15) boards.
In women's relays, the 200 free relay of Ryan, Lyver, Shannon Lulley and Biagioli placed third in 1:37.47 while the team of McKenna, Carroll, Chappell and Chandler Lulley placed seventh (1:40.49) and the team of Foster, Jones, Gray and Goehring took ninth (1:41.38).
The 400 free relay of Ryan, Lyver, Chandler Lulley and Biagioli was second in 3:33.96 and the team of Shannon Lulley, Carroll, Chappell and Warren placing fifth (3:42.75).
The 800 free relay of Goehring, Warren, Foster and Zarriello placed third in 7:58.34 and the team of Gehrich, Gray, Chappell and McGovern was fifth (8:08.81).
The 200 medley relay of Ryan, Carroll, Shannon Lulley and Biagioli was third in 1:48.64 and a team of Chappell, Marshall, Jones and Lyver was fifth (1:52.35).
The 400 medley relay of Ryan, Marshall, Shannon Lulley and Biagioli was third in 3:54.90 while the squad of Chappell, Carroll, Jones and Lyver was fourth in 4:03.41.
In men's action, Pat Militti placed eighth in the 100 free (47.72), fourth in the 100 fly (51.60) and 17th in the 50 free (21.98) while Nick Belfanti placed ninth in the 200 free in 1:47.39 with Nick Burbridge taking 14th (1:48.42) and Andrew Hendrickson 19th (1:49.63).
Hendrickson was also 14th in the 500 free for the Rams (4:47.05) while Michael Grimmett-Norris placed 20th in the race (4:50.39).
In the 100 breaststroke, Ben Dwyer was 12th in 1:02.71 with Zachery Jacobsen 14th (1:03.90), Eamon Trebilcock 17th (1:04.54), and Kevin Kosciuk 19th (1:05.27)
In the 100 fly (51.60) while Thomas Yi placed 14th (53.18) while in the 200 fly Militti (1:57.44), Kosciuk (1:58.88) and Brandon Strong (2:00.98) were eighth through tenth, respectively, with Brennan Simpkins 12th (2:02.63).
Yi paced the Rams in the 100 back with a fifth-place finish in a season-best time of 52.53 with Grimmett-Norris taking 14th (54.96), Will Thomas 18th (55.72) and Joseph Parisi 20th (56.60).
Yi also was the top 200 back competitor for Fordham, placing third in 1:55.46 with Grimmett-Norris eighth (1:58.34), Parisi 16th (2:02.06), Thomann 18th (2:02.62) and Hendrickson 19th (2:03.99).
Ben Dwyer was the top 200 breaststroker, placing tenth in 2:15.84 while Jacobsen was 12th (2:16.69)
In 200 IM, Yi placed 12th in 1:58.14 while Jacobson was right behind him (1:58.42) and Kosciuk finished 19th (2:00.63).
Jacobsen was tenth in the 400 IM (4:15.11) with Kevin Kosciuk (4:16.58) and Michael Grimmett-Norris (4:17.62) taking eleventh and 12th, respectively.
In diving, Kevin Wong placed sixth on the one meter board (132.30) and seventh on the three (197.35).
In men's relays, the 200 free team of Noguchi, Yi, Burbridge and Militti placed fifth in 1:25.75 while the 400 free relay of Noguchi, Yi, Burbridge and Militti was third (3:09.34) and the 400 free team of Hendrickson, Belfanti, Sholdra and Grimmett-Norris was ninth (3:24.05).
In the 800 free relay, Sholdra, Belfanti, Grimmett-Norris and Jacobsen teamed up to take fourth in 7:10.17.
In the men's 200 medley relay, the squad of Yi, Dwyer, Noguchi and Militti was fifth in 1:37.15 while the team of Grimmett-Norris, Sholdra, Jacobsen and Burbridge was tenth (1:42.03).
In the 400 medley relay, the team of Yi, Sholdra, Noguchi and Militti was third in a season-best time of 3:30.41 while the team of Grimmett-Norris, Dwyer, Jacobsen and Burbridge was eighth (3:40.13).
The Fordham swimming and diving teams will next be in action on November 16-18 as they compete at the Bucknell Invitational.
