Fordham University cross country squads swept the Atlantic 10 weekly award with Nick Synan (Iowa City, Iowa/Regina) and Anisa Arsenault (Attleboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan) being named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men's and Women's Cross Country Performers of the Week, while fellow Rams' Mike Turi (Fishkill, N.Y./John Jay) and Suzy Sikorski (Atlantic Beach, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) earned Men's and Women's Rookie of the Week honors, as announced by the league office for meets ran Oct. 1-8.
At the Metropolitan Conference Championships on Friday at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, the Fordham men placed second while the women were third.
Synan was the first male Ram to cross the line, taking fourth overall of 111 runners in a career-best time of 26:29.71 on the 8K course.
Turi was the second Fordham finisher for the men, placing seventh overall in a time of 26:35.30.
On the women's side, Arsenault was the top Fordham finisher, placing fourth of 123 runners in a time of 18:26.80. Her time was the fastest time for a Fordham women's cross country runner this fall on a 5K course and was just 12 seconds behind the winner, Mallory Anderson of Columbia.
Sikorski placed tenth in the women's race in 19:10.02. It was her fastest 5K time of the year.
The Fordham cross country squad will next be in action on Saturday, October 13th, when they travel to Williamsburg, Virginia, to compete in the Tribe Invitational at the College of William and Mary at 9:30 a.m.
