Trio of Fordham Swimmers Earn Weekly Atlantic 10 Honors

Newport News, Va. - A trio of Fordham swimmers were among this week's Atlantic 10 Swimming & Diving award winners, it was announced by the league on Tuesday. Senior Brienne Ryan (New Windsor, N.Y./Cornwall) was selected as the Women's Performer of the Week for the eighth time in her career, while Shintaro Noguchi (Tiburon, Calif./Redwood) earned Men's Performer of the Week honors for the second time in his career. Fordham's final award winner was Steve Sholdra (Renton, Wash./H.B. Education), who was the Men's Co-Rookie of the Week.

Ryan earned Women's Performer of the Week honors after kicking off her senior season with two individual and two relay wins this past weekend against Bucknell and Connecticut. The senior broke the pool record at UConn in the 100 backstroke, posting a time of 55.38, while also claiming the win in the 200 backstroke (2:02.68), making her the A-10 leader in both events. Ryan also helped the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays to two first place victories.

Noguchi garnered Men's Performer of the Week accolades after competing this past weekend against Bucknell and Connecticut. The junior took first place in both the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:42.67 and 100 butterfly with a time of 50.02, the top time in the A-10 so far this season. Noguchi also helped both relays to two third place finishes.

Sholdra shared Men's Co-Rookie of the Week accolades with LaSalle's Johan Roth. He finished first in both the 500 freestyle (4:37.12) and 1000 freestyle (9:24.03), and took second in the 200 butterfly (1:54.82), all of which lead the A-10 so far this season, and was a part of the third place 400 freestyle relay.

Ryan, Nougchi, Sholdra and the rest of the Fordham swimming & diving teams will next be in action twice this week. The Rams host Marist on Thursday, while traveling to Fairfield on Friday.
