SERIES HISTORY: This is the 17th all-time meeting between the Rams and the Explorers, with Fordham having an 8-6-2 series lead. The two squads met last year at Jack Coffey Field with the Rams and Explorers playing to a 1-1 draw.
LAST TIME OUT: Heading into Sunday's match-up, both the Fordham Rams and George Washington Colonials needed a win as Atlantic 10 play begins to wind down. After a late goal by George Washington forced overtime, Fordham's Kristina Maksuti sent the fans home happy, as she scored six minutes into overtime, giving Fordham a 2-1 victory at Jack Coffey Field.
After a scoreless first half, Fordham netted the opening goal of the game in the 57th minute. Victoria Camaj slowly dribbled her way down the left side, eventually booting a shot from 35 yards out, which snuck its way into the top right corner of the goal for her second tally of the season.
The Colonials then put the pressure on the Rams, as Kristi Abbate got loose for a shot to the top left corner, but Fordham goalkeeper Ally White, made a fingertip save, knocking the ball away to keep the Rams ahead, 1-0.
Abbate though would not be denied in the final minute of regulation, as she dribbled through multiple defenders and scored her third goal of the season with 53 remaining to tie the game and force overtime.
In overtime, Fordham's Annie Worden picked up the ball on the offensive end, crossing it into the box for Kristina Maksuti, who would turn and fire in her team-leading fifth goal of the season to win the game for the Rams.
In net, White made five saves in the victory for Fordham, while Nicole Fasano made seven for the Colonials.
WHO'S NEXT: The Fordham women's soccer team will next be in action on Friday, October 26th, when the Rams play at Temple, beginning at 3:00 PM.
