Fordham SAAC Hits the Road for a Midnight Run

Oct. 15, 2012

Bronx, N.Y. - In conjunction with Global Outreach, members of Fordham's Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) will be volunteering their time on Monday evening's Midnight Run, delivering food, clothing, and supplies to New York City homeless shelters.

Over the course of the fall semester, Fordham athletic squads from basketball, softball, swimming, tennis, track soccer, and volleyball, have been collecting supplies and money for New York City shelters to give back to the community.

"We decided to take on this project to give back to a city we all enjoy being a part of," said Ryan Curran, one of SAAC's event planners a member of the men's soccer team. "Monday's Midnight Run gives us a hands-on experience to really make a contribution to the city's homeless."

Among the student-athletes joining Curran on Monday are his men's soccer teammate Andre Seidenthal, SAAC president Krissy Buongiorno (volleyball), SAAC Treasurer Abigail Corning (women's basketball), Anisa Arsenault and Kellen Fitzgerald from the track & field team, Julie Leong and Hanna Fritzinger from women's tennis, and Liz Milner from women's basketball.

Fordham student-athletes take pride every year in executing projects that give back to the community, as a part of Fordham University's Jesuit philosophy of homines pro aliis, being men and women for others. Earlier projects by Fordham student-athletes this year include all of the fall sports teams assisting with Freshman Move-In Day on the Rose Hill Campus, the football team taking part in the Uplifting Athletes campaign, which raised money for pediatric cancer research, and the women's basketball team volunteering at the 2012 TOUGHMAN Triathlon.
