Golf Team Ties For Ninth at Big 5 Invitational

Huntingdon Valley, Pa. - The Fordham golf team finished competition at the Big 5 Invitational on Sunday, hosted at the Philmont Country Club in Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania. Behind a pair of 75's by Jason Del Rosso and Brody Nieporte, Fordham tied for ninth place in the 19-team field.

The University of Hartford rallied from 12 shots back on day one to win the tournament by one stroke over Sacred Heart. The Hawks shot a second day total of 291, which was 13 shots better than the Pioneers, to post a winning score of 609 to Sacred Heart's 610. Fordham was six shots better from Saturday to Sunday, shooting a team score of 310 and a two-day total of 626.

Individually, Temple's Brandon Matthews shot a one-under-par round of 69 to win the tournament with a two-day score of 145, followed by Binghamton's Bryce Edmister (73-73-146) and Princeton's Greg Jarmas (71-75-146), who tied for second. Yale's Brad Kushner (72-76-148) took fourth with Fordham's Jason Del Rosso (74-75-149), tying for fifth place.

Aside from Del Rosso, Brody Nieporte also shot a round of 75 to shoot 155 for the tournament, which tied him for 23rd. Brandon Nolan tied for 50th overall (81-79-160), with Connor Monaghan (81-82-163) and Jeff Hogan (82-81-163) tying for 62nd.

The Fordham golf team will next be in action on October 20-21, as the Rams compete at the Lehigh Invitational, which will be held at the Saucon Valley C.C. in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
