After playing in three tournaments to open the 2012-13 season, the Fordham University women's tennis team hosted Manhattan today in the first dual meet of the year, shutting out the Jaspers, 7-0, on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts.
The Rams opened the match winning the doubles points, taking all three doubles matches. Amy Simidian and Anika Novacek won at first doubles over Manhattan's Lili Johnson and Brianna Turano, 8-2, while Sarah Ali and Bella Genkina defeated Caitlin Bricketto and Stephanie Tsao at second doubles and Angelika Dabu and Julie Leong won a third doubles over Alyssa Rosello and Catherine Clark by identical 8-3 scores.
The Rams then won all six singles matches, five in straight sets. The only match that wasn't decided in straight sets was first singles where Simidian dropped the first set to Johnson, 6-3, but came back to win the second, 6-4, and the tiebreaker, 10-5.
At second singles, Ali defeated Bricketto, 6-0, 6-4, while Genkina took third singles from Turano, 6-2, 6-2, Dabu was victorious at the fourth spot over Tsao, 6-1, 6-0, Leong took fifth singles from Rosello, 6-0, 6-1, and Novacek upended Clark at the sixth position, 6-0, 6-2.
The Rams will next be in action as they open play at the ITA Regionals on Friday, October 19th, at Army.
