The Fordham University Rams open the home portion of their 2012 Atlantic 10 season by hosting the Xavier University Musketeers in the Rose Hill Gym on Saturday, January 7th, at noon. The Rams enter the game with a 7-7 overall record after opening their Atlantic 10 season with an 80-76 setback at Massachusetts on Thursday night. Xavier enters the game with a 9-5 overall record, 0-1 in the A-10, after opening its conference schedule with an 80-70 loss at La Salle on Wednesday night.
On the court, Fordham is led by junior Chris Gaston, who leads the team in scoring (16.7 ppg) and rebounding (11.6 rpg). He scored 16 points and grabbed a season-high 18 rebounds at Massachusetts, his NCAA-leading 12th double-double of the year and the 48th of his career. His 16 points brings his career total to 1,184, moving him ahead of Jermaine Anderson (2002-06) and Steve Samuels (1980-85) and into 19th place on the Fordham all-time scoring list, 34 points behind Jason Harris (1997-201) for 18th place, while his 17 rebounds surpasses his previous season-high of 16 against Georgia Tech and bring his career total to 797, placing him in eighth place on the Fordham career rebounding list, four behind Damon Lopez (1988-91) for seventh on the list.
Saturday's game will be the 25th meeting between the Rams and the Musketeers on the hardwood. The game between the two Jesuit schools is one of more than 90 games played this season as part of the Jesuit Basketball Spotlight (JBS). The Jesuit Basketball Spotlight (JBS) project uses Jesuit basketball to raise awareness of Jesuit education (28 schools in US).
