The Fordham University women's basketball team will open Atlantic 10 conference play as they face the George Washington Colonials in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, January 7, at 5:00 PM from the Smith Center. The Rams and Colonials will meet for the 18th time on Saturday. George Washington has won 16 of the previous 17 encounters, but Fordham won last year's matchup, 59-56 in a game played in the Bronx. This was the first time Fordham ever defeated George Washington with Becky Peters leading the way, scoring 27 points on 10-of-16 shooting.
Fordham closed out the non-conference portion of the schedule with a, 63-48 win over Delaware State on Wednesday night from the Memorial Hall Gym in Dover, Delaware. In the victory, Abigail Corning scored a game-high 19 points, shooting 7-of-11 from the field, while Becky Peters chipped in with 10 points and Charlotte Stoddart came within one point of a double-double, finishing with nine points and 10 rebounds. The win improved the Rams' road record to 5-2 on the season.
Fordham has three players averaging in double figures for scoring beginning with Becky Peters at 11.3 ppg. Abigail Corning is scoring 11.2 ppg and leads the team in three-point percentage (.426), while Arielle Collins enters play averaging 10.9 ppg, leading the squad in assists (51) and steals (28).
The Colonials enter the game with a 7-7 mark and have won two of their last three contests. They are led in scoring by Dannie Jackson (11.9 ppg) and Tara Booker (10.5)
Following the GW game, the Rams will close out their three game road trip with another A-10 matchup, traveling to Philadelphia to face La Salle University on Wednesday, January 11, at noon.
