The Fordham squash team had its work cut out for them on Saturday, as the team hosted two nationally-ranked opponents in #21 Connecticut College and #13 Middlebury College at the Lombardi Squash Courts. Neither match went well for the Rams, as Fordham fell in both contests by 9-0 scores.
Fordham is now 3-11 on the season.
In the opening match of the afternoon, Fordham fell to 21st-ranked Connecticut College, 9-0. The Rams played shorthanded with only seven players available for the match. The best effort put forth by the Rams came from Andrew Grosner, Ethan Brooks, and Matthew Ieraci. Grosner fell to Jeremy Wong at the #2 slot by scores of 11-7, 11-4, and 11-1, while Brooks lost to Michael Coscarelli at the #5 slot by tallies of 11-3, 11-6, and 11-1.
Ieraci, who played twice at both the #7 and #8 slot, had the better go in his #8 slot match against Colin Forsyth, where Forsyth won by scores of 11-4, 11-3, and 11-4.
In match two, things didn't get much better for the Rams, as Fordham fell to 13th-ranked Middlebury College by a 9-0 count.
The Rams' top player, Jack O'Brien, had the most success, falling to Middlebury's Valentin Quan at the #1 slot, 11-6, 11-4, and 11-3. Grosner also played tough at the #2 slot, but came up short of Jay Dolan, 11-2, 11-6, and 11-2.
The Fordham squash team will wrap up its home schedule on Sunday, February 5th, when the Rams host Vassar College at the Lombardi Squash Courts, beginning at 1:00 PM.
