Women's Basketball Hosts Cornell University on Monday Night

Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham University women's basketball squad will look to improve to 5-2 at home this season as the team welcomes the Cornell University Big Red into the Rose Hill Gym on Monday, January 2, at 7:00 P.M. Follow the game by clicking on the links below:

The Rams and the Big Red will meet for only the second time on Monday. The first meeting between the two schools was in the Bronx in 1987, where Fordham defeated Cornell, 68-58.

The Rams enter the contents after suffering a heartbreaking loss to Coppin State in the final seconds of the title game for the 2011 Fordham Holiday Classic, 61-60, on Friday. In the game, Fordham's Abigail Corning scored a game-high 21 points and earned a spot on the all-tournament team. Fordham enters the game with an 8-5 overall record and has three players averaging in double figures in scoring beginning with Becky Peters at 11.7 ppg. Abigail Corning is scoring 11.3 ppg and leads the team in three-point field goal percentage (.439), while Arielle Collins enters play averaging 11.2 ppg, leading the squad in assists (43) and steals (21).

The Big Red enter the game with a 3-7 mark after losing their second straight, a 62-45 set back to Canisius December 28. The team is led in scoring by Clare Fitzpatrick (10.9 ppg) followed by Allyson DiMagno (10.7 ppg) and Maka Anyanwu (9.6 ppg).

Following the Cornell game, the Rams head out on the road for three games beginning with a contest against Delaware State on Wednesday, January 4 at 6:00 PM. Following the game with the Hornets, the team continues on to Washington, D.C. to open A-10 play with George Washington on Saturday, January 7, at 5:00 PM.
