Fordham University junior Sean Atkinson (Brooklyn, N.Y./Nazareth Regional) was named the Atlantic 10's Men's Indoor Track & Field Performer of the Week, today by the league office. It is the second weekly performer award for Atkinson this season, and the third of his career.
Encompassing the last two weeks of results, Atkinson registered two individual IC4A qualifying marks in the 400 and 500 meter events, while also being a part of two IC4A qualifying relay teams.
At the Rutgers Invitational, Atkinson was second in both the 500-meter event (1:03.06) and the 4x400 relay (3:19.73) in IC4A qualifying times. His 500-meter run time also broke the Fordham school record of 1:03.17, which was set by Brian Schmidt last season.
Then, at the Yale Invitational, Atkinson placed third in the 400-meter dash in an IC4A qualifying time of 49.10 seconds, while taking second place as a member of the 4x800 relay, which also posted an IC4A qualifying time (7:46.49).
Atkinson and the rest of the Fordham track & field team will next be in action on Friday, January 20th, when the Rams participate in the the Great Dane Invitational, held at the Armory Track & Field Center.
