Rep. Peter King to Speak At Fordham Fiasco Cross Country Meet on Saturday

Sept. 7, 2011

Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham University cross country squad will hold a special ceremony to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the attacks of September 11th prior to the 2011 Fordham Fiasco meet at Van Cortlandt on Saturday, September 10th at 10:00 a.m. The ceremony will take place at the finish line of the Van Cortlandt Park Cross Country course in the Bronx (directly across the street from 6115 Broadway).

Rep. Peter King, chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee who represents New York's 3rd congressional district, will be the guest speaker and race starter. King is a high school friend of Fordham head coach Tom Dewey. Dewey, a former teacher at Nazareth High School in Brooklyn, lost nine of his former students from Nazareth on 9/11, three of whom he coached on the track team, as well as a good friend.

The ceremony will start with the Presentation of Colors by the Fordham ROTC Color Guard and the National Anthem. Sister Regina De Vitto, CND, a member of Fordham's Campus Ministry, will follow with the invocation before King delivers his remarks and starts the race. Members of the NYPD and FDNY will also be in attendance.

All runners will wear a special 9/11 commemorative ribbon produced by members of the Fordham team.

The 2011 Fordham Fiasco will include over 30 teams including the U.S. Naval Academy, Penn and Yale along with local schools Rutgers, Seton Hall and NYU.
