Bronx, N.Y. -
The men's soccer team, currently in the middle of its season-long five-game road trip, faces its toughest challenges so far as it travels to Omaha, Nebraska to face #5 Creighton on Friday, and then visits Des Moines Iowa, for a matchup with Drake on Sunday. The 2-0 Rams look to remain without a loss, but have to race the Bluejays and Bulldogs before returning to New York to face Columbia next week.
Fordham, currently ranked fifth in the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Region, takes on a Blue Jays team that enters the game ranked fifth in the nation. The game, scheduled for 8:00 P.M. on Friday, September 9, will be the first-ever meeting between the two Jesuit universities. Creighton enters the contest undefeated at 3-0, most recently dispatching UMKC, 5-0. Before that, they posted a 3-0 blanking of Drexel in front of 5,425 fans (the fourth largest in school history) in their home opener on Friday.
Fordham enters play at 2-0, with identical, 1-0 shutouts of Lehigh and Hartford. Two defensemen, Michael Stalker and Phil Ferrantello, have registered both of the Rams' goals so far this season, while John McHugh picked up an assist. Senior goalie, Ryan Meara, has posted two straight shutouts while turning aside seven shots.
After Friday's matchup, it doesn't get any easier for the Rams as they head to Des Moines Iowa to face the Bulldogs on Sunday, September 11. The game is scheduled to begin at 2:00 P.M. Drake enters the contest at 2-1-1 on the season, losing a heartbreaker to #14 UC-Irvine, 2-1 on Sunday. The Bulldogs couldn't recover from a 2-0 deficit in that game. This is the first opponent from the Missouri Valley Conference that Fordham faces this season.
Following this stretch of games, the Rams close out their five-game road trip with a pair of games against local opponents, in Columbia and Adelphi. The game with Lions is Thursday, September 15 at 7:00 P.M. in Manhattan. Three days later, on Sunday, September 18, Fordham faces the Panthers at 5:00 P.M.
The Rams return to Jack Coffey Field on Wednesday, September 21, when they host Marist College. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 P.M.
