Bronx, N.Y. -
The Fordham men's golf team is headed to New Haven, Connecticut for the MacDonald Cup tournament this Saturday and Sunday, October 1 and 2. Ivy League member, Yale University will serve as the host school for the tournament. The first two rounds will be played on Saturday and the final 18 holes will come on Sunday.
The Rams have competed in two events thus far in the fall season, opening the year in the Bucknell Invitational and more recently, participating in the Cornell Invitational last week. In the Bucknell Invitational, three Fordham golfers set career-low, single-round scores. During the first day of the event, Pat Herlihy shot an all-time-best of 74. Classmate, Brody Nieporte, posted a 70, which is tops for him. Finally, senior captain, Devon O'Rourke, had the best round for the Rams, as he finished with a one-under-par 69.
In the Cornell Invitational, the Rams shot their way to a 6th place finish. In that event, freshman, Jeff Hogan posted consecutive, even-par rounds of 72 on Friday. Jason Del Rosso finished with a 73 in the final round.
The Fordham golf team competed in the 2010 MacDonald Cup as well. In that event, which was a 10th place finish for the Rams as a team, Del Rosso opened the scoring with a 71.
Following the MacDonald Cup, the team returns to the course on Saturday, October 15, when the squad competes in the Classic at Shelter Harbor in Charleston, Rhode Island. The two-day event concludes on Sunday.
