Sept. 26, 2011

Topdrawersoccer.com List of Top Players by Conference

Bronx, N.Y. - The top players in the nation have been released by topdrawersoccer.com and Fordham's senior goalie, Ryan Meara, finds his name at number three amongst all Atlantic 10 players, and first among the league's keepers. He trails only Tyler Gibson of Charlotte and Xavier's Gino Depaoli, whom hold the top two slots in the conference rankings.

Meara continues to impress during his senior season. He has posted four clean sheets this season including wins over Harford, Lehigh and Columbia. He was named to the A-10 Pre-Season All Conference team heading into 2011, as well as being named to the Hermann Trophy Watch List and rated as one of the top professional prospects in the country by topdrawersoccer.com.

In the midst of his final season at Rose Hill, Meara enters play on Tuesday with 26 career shutouts, just one clean sheet shy of Fordham's all-time mark of 27, set by Jeff Knuth. He has all three of the Fordham wins this season, and he's made 26 saves on the season and has posted 0.47 Goals Against Average.

The list was compiled by previous accolades, current season performance, and feedback from coaches, players and experts. The website ranks the top 20 players from all the conferences and Meara is the only Fordham team member to make the list. He is one of two goalies on the A-10's rankings, as Justin Marshall of Xavier came in at #18.

As far as the breakdown goes, Charlotte leads the way with five athletes on the list. The Musketeers have four names in the top 20, Saint Louis has three, Temple has a pair and Dayton, Duquesne George Washington, Richmond, St. Bonaventure and our Rams each have a lone player on the list.

Meara and the Fordham men's soccer team return to action on Tuesday, September 27, when they travel to Uniondale, New York to face Hofstra. The game begins at 7:00 P.M.
