The Fordham University men's tennis squad wrapped up play at the 2011 USTA Billie Jean King Men's College Invitational at the National Tennis Center in Queens today with Mischa Koran finding the most success, advancing to the semifinals of the Men's Open Single "E" draw.
Koran, the number four seed, advanced to the semifinals with a 7-6(5), 6-2 win over Joe Dube in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Koran fell to second-seeded Dan Hirschberg, 6-3; 7-6(5).
Also competing in the Men's Open Singles "E" draw was Srikar, who fell to Sam Todd in the quarterfinals, 2-6; 6-1; 12-10.
Peder Gram opened play in the Men's Singles "G" draw by defeating Mark Hemy of FDU by default before upending NJIT's Ike Kiro in straight sets, 6-4 and 6-4, in the round of 16. In the quarterfinals, Gram fell to FDU's Peter Skvarka, the second seed, 6-4 and 6-3.
In other singles action today, J.J. Tauil also opened play in the "G" Singles draw with a match against NJIT's Bryan Keelan. Tauil dropped the first set, 6-1, before coming back to win the second, 6-1, and a tough-fought tiebreaker, 15-13.
In the round of 16, Tauil fell to Joe Davison, wining the first set, 7-5, before dropping the second, 6-3, and the tiebreaker, 10-6. In the draw back, Tauil lost to the number one seed, Cameron Amoyot of Fairfield, 6-4 and 6-2.
In the Men's Open Singles "H" draw, Michael Puntillo won by default over Mike Lessing to advance to the round of 16 where he fell to Saint Peter's Alex Frakes, 6-3 and 6-1. In the draw back, Puntillo fell to Sergi Carvajai of St. Francis, 6-4 and 6-2.
In the Men's Open Singles "D" flight, Kuba Kowalski fell to second-seeded Will Reznek of Marist in the quarterfinals, taking the firsts set, 6-1, before losing the second, 7-5 and the tiebreaker, 10-4.
The Rams also had three doubles teams schedule to compete in back draw action today but all three withdrew.
